Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) standards
BAP is a voluntary certification program covering the most important aspects of aquaculture operations, and provides a quantitative tool with which to measure compliance. Owned and developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance, BAP covers factors such as environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety and traceability as they apply to this unique sector. The scope extends along the supply chain from hatcheries and feed mills, to farms, to processing.
Despite some differences between the standards for specific facility types, they invariably take a holistic approach, with considerations such as community and employee relations, environment conservation and drug/chemical management covered.
